If you were born the last time the England football team was in a final, you would be 55 now. How has your life played out, achieved success (whatever that means to you)? If I was to ask you to name your top three goal achievements, what would they be? Take a piece of A4 paper and list them:

My top three goal achievements are:

  1. …………………………………………………
  2. …………………………………………………
  3. …………………………………………………

Next to each one, list WHY they were important to you, how did they make you feel having achieved them?

Did you plan your top three goal achievements? Or did you live your life from one match to the next?

What next?

Like any knowledgeable football coach, each match and season are skillfully and meticulously planned out. It’s the same with your life, was it planned? Or did it happen, day by day? As one client said to me, “I’ve never thought about my life. I’ve just lived it from one task to the next.”

Do you want the next 20 years of your life just to exist? To have shot past like the last 20 not remembering one match from another? And, now you are 55, what do you want for your future? What would you like to be, do and have in your life?

What would the next 20 years feel and be like to live without fear, anxiety and worry of your team ever losing…

When was the last time you learnt something new? Did something fun? Or just because you could? It’s easy to get caught up in the game of life from one match to the next. But, unfortunately, we forget to set a time-out for ourselves. Instead, focus on your well-being, be happy and content. It’s yours to have.

All you need to do is know that you want to change your life. And when you change your life, the people around you change. You attract new ones, find new interests. Like new signings coming into a team, they change the form and its direction for the better.

Be curious...

I’m here to encourage you to be curious, to try stuff you’ve never done before, because what if your life could be different?

I want you to make a list of things:

  • You have never done but wanted to but scared to try?
  • You are curious about and want to find out more?
  • You are curious about and want to try?

You will never reinvent the next chapter of your life from the comfortable armchair you are sitting watching the footy! Instead, you will have to get up off your backside and start:

Being curious and trying stuff = discovering something new and a bias to taking action. Here are the *steps:

  1. Write down something from your list you’re scared to try, you are curious about or want to try.
  2. Write the tiniest first step you can take towards it.
  3. Go take and do it.
  4. Repeat it.

How did it feel taking those steps? Fearful, scarry, excited? – It did for me; starting and writing this blog was one of them, and I have now been doing it for over three years. The more we do something, the less fearful it becomes. It becomes routine, less scary, and you start to get excited about it. For example, learning to ride a bicycle, your first driving lesson, and let’s not forget your first kiss! The more we did it and practised it, the more we gained confidence doing it. Especially the kissing…

What would your life be like if you were confident? What if you spent time doing something you were passionate about? What if you were happily pursuing a new hobby or interest. How would you be feeling? Every time you take action, you move one step closer to your reinvented life. I can help you create an action plan to carry you forward to the life you want.

Your future

What’s stopping you? What keeps you awake at 3 am? No. I’m not talking about you scoring the winning goal for your team in the cup final. Do you feel like you are in a rut and don’t know how to get out of it? Football your only interest, but you want more?

Reinventing yourself can feel like a big step, just like stepping up to take that all-important penalty. Timing and knowing where to aim the ball all help to score those reinvented life goals.

What do you want for your future? What short, medium and long term goals have you planned? – the England football team have been planning this campaign for the past five years. And, research has shown that you are statically more likely to achieve your goals/outcomes when you plan and write them down.

Write them down;

My top three short, medium and long term goals I want to achieve are:

  1. ……………………………………………….
  2. ……………………………………………….
  3. ……………………………………………….

Next to each one, list WHY they are important to you. Imagine how you’ll feel and how you’ll be AFTER you’ve achieved your goal. Waking up each morning and asking yourself what that person would do. And just like the *steps above. Go take and do it.
